Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap™ Excedion™ Mass Spectrometer combines quadrupole precursor selection, HCD fragmentation, and a high-field Orbitrap analyzer. This architecture delivers high-resolution MS and MS/MS data for compound identification, structural characterization, and quantitation in complex samples.
Enhanced Dynamic Range (eDR) technology extends the dynamic range within a resulting mass spectrum to five orders of magnitude under defined conditions. By acquiring data across mass subranges and automatically combining the results, the system supports the detection of low-abundance components alongside highly abundant compounds. This is particularly useful for metabolomic profiling and trace-contaminant detection.
The ion interface combines a high-capacity transfer tube and an electrodynamic ion funnel, optimized for efficient, gentle transmission of labile compounds. The OptaMax™ Plus ion source provides stable electrospray operation and flexibility across different LC flow rates. EASY-IC™ technology supplies internal reference ions for mass-scale correction during analysis.
The system supports targeted and untargeted data acquisition strategies. AcquireX™ enables automated reinjection workflows with updated precursor inclusion and exclusion lists. Compound Discoverer™ workflows complement the instrumentation with data processing for metabolomics and small-molecule identification.
Orbitrap Excedion can be upgraded in the laboratory to Orbitrap Excedion Pro, allowing analytical capabilities to expand as application requirements and research priorities evolve.
Orbitrap Excedion BioPharma is a specialized configuration with an extended mass range up to m/z 8000. It includes Intact Protein and Oligonucleotide application modes, together with selectable ion-routing multipole pressure regimes for intact protein, oligonucleotide, and mRNA analysis. These capabilities are specific to the BioPharma configuration.
