Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap™ Excedion™ Pro Mass Spectrometer combines quadrupole precursor selection, fragmentation in the ion-routing multipole, and an ultra-high-field Orbitrap analyzer. The platform delivers high-resolution MS and MS/MS data for compound identification, structural characterization, and quantitation in complex samples.
Standard HCD fragmentation can be complemented by the optional EASY-ETD™ technology, enabling ETD and EThcD. Combining electron-transfer and collision-based fragmentation generates complementary fragment ions, supporting peptide sequencing and post-translational modification localization. These capabilities are particularly valuable for immunopeptides, glycopeptides, and other modified peptides.
Enhanced Dynamic Range (eDR) technology extends the dynamic range within a resulting mass spectrum to five orders of magnitude under defined conditions. This supports the detection of low-abundance components alongside highly abundant compounds—an important advantage for metabolomic profiling and complex biological sample analysis.
Hybrid-DIA combines targeted PRM analysis with untargeted DIA acquisition in a single experiment. Adaptive RT adjusts acquisition windows to accommodate retention-time shifts, helping maintain consistent monitoring of target analytes across large sample batches.
The OptaMax™ Plus ion source and electrodynamic ion funnel (EDIF) provide stable ionization and efficient, gentle transmission of labile compounds. EASY-IC™ technology supplies internal reference ions for mass-scale correction during analysis.
Xcalibur™ instrument control and application-specific templates simplify method development. Depending on analytical requirements, the platform can be complemented by Compound Discoverer™, Proteome Discoverer™, and BioPharma Finder™ software for data processing and interpretation.
Orbitrap Excedion Pro BioPharma extends the mass range to m/z 12,000 and includes a dedicated Intact Protein application mode. Selectable pressure regimes in the ion-routing multipole enable adaptation to intact protein analysis under native and denaturing conditions. The configuration supports monoclonal antibody characterization, complex biotherapeutic analysis, and HDX-MS research.
The extended m/z 12,000 range and Intact Protein mode are specific to the BioPharma configuration. ETD/EThcD require the corresponding option and should not be assumed to be included as standard.
